The Most favorite Fruits

The Most favorite Fruits

The world's most favorite fruit is certainly (on a technicality alone) the tomato as it is most widely produced fruit but is used as a vegetable. Who could be without the tomato? It is a staple in Italian, Greek and Pakistani cuisines and is used to make salsas, sauces and used in salads the world over. After that comes the mango, the king of fruit, according to habitancy of the Indian subcontinent. Have you never eaten one? They are tasty and come in distinct varieties and sizes. Here in Pakistan we await them with eagerness and then eat as many as humanly inherent until the season ends, which it seems to have done now. I love the small yellow ones that are a natural juice carton. You naturally rub them between your palms and make a small hole in the top and slurp out the golden nectar inside.

Mangoes comprise beta-carotene which the body converts into vitamin A and lots of vitamin C and A as well as vitamin B3 (niacin) and the minerals potassium and iron, among others. The big green-skinned ones find their way to Europe and the States and these have a more delicate, sweet, flowery flavour. They have to be sliced and eaten and are more costly than the slight yellow mangoes I love so much.

In the world rankings the banana is the next most favorite fruit, containing loads of vitamins and minerals. Here in Pakistan, there are small bananas and I can't say I would buy a banana rather than a mango or any other soft fruit. To me bananas are rather banal. However Americans can't seem to get adequate of them as the mean American eats 25 pounds of this fruit every year.

The apple and orange come next on the list, the apple sells more than the sweet orange, but of course there are many varieties of apple to pick from.

However if you come from South Asia, the durian would be the king of fruit and the number one option of fruit for most Thais for example. Then they would rate the mangosteen and rambutan, which are less well known in the West. (My spell checker doesn't like the word rambutan which says something about its fame.)

In Pakistan in summer the guava would be very rated as would the lychee, while in Britain habitancy would rate the strawberry- where would Wimbledon and the British tennis fan be without the fruit? The raspberry might get an honorable Mention too. However in health terms the cranberry and kiwi fruit would have to be in the list of most favorite fruit.

The most favorite fruit is a matter of which country you are living in; Greeks would probably say the melons are favorite and of course, grapes, but would use fresh tomatoes in almost every meal. Italians would probably Mention the kiwi fruit, so it unmistakably does depend on where you live and which fruit is produced in your country.

Whichever fruit you like, remember how wholesome fruit is and eat as much of it as you can. An apple a day may not keep the physician away, but a mixture of fruit and vegetables in a well-balanced diet just might.
